Have you ever met one of those couples that radiate that once in a lifetime kind of loves? Gabby and Devon have that kind of love. I am so lucky to have gotten to photograph and witness that kind of deep connection while photographing them together. This sweet couple grew up on the same street, and the groom was the bride's brother's best friend; she was the older sister that he had a crush on. It took years for them to reconnect, get to know each other again, and fall in love. Once they were together, they never looked back. Scroll to the end of the photos to read Gabby's version of their story. They are the sweetest! Love this couple so much!
They were married by the bride's grandfather, surrounded by loving family and friends at Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure on a spectacularly clear day. Their wedding celebration was bursting with so much love and energy. The floral arrangements by Occasions by Emily were just stunning, featuring sunflowers and the prettiest variety of fall inspired flowers. The team from Jumping Jukebox made everything sound great and kept that dance floor packed during the reception. That honestly may have been one of the most fun dance parties at a wedding that I've experienced. The bridesmaids and ladies all looked extra fabulous with the help of Southern Couture Salon. Short Street Cakes made the most delicious cake and cupcakes. Rumbling Bald was a fabulous venue for the ceremony and reception, and the on site team handled the catering wonderfully.
It was truly an honor to capture the magic of this special day for the most wonderful people! I love getting to photograph weddings and celebrations, working together to make it extra fun for my couples, their families, and guests. If you have a celebration coming up, reach out and we could have this much fun capturing the love on your day.
The bride, Gabby, shares some of their story: "Everyone always asks a couple, “how did you two meet”? I can’t answer that question simply in a sentence or two because it’s complicated. We didn’t meet but rather we re-met each other after not keeping in touch for 6 years. Devon and I grew up across the street from each other. I have known him since I was 7 and he was 5. Devon was also my brother’s best friend. He had a crush on me while we were growing up but he was too young for me at the time. It wasn’t until I moved home for a short period of time after living in NYC that we reconnected and realized that something had changed between us. I didn’t see him as just my younger brother’s best friend but someone I could love and be loved by. He asked if I would take a chance with him and try a long distance relationship. So for 2.5 years, we called each other daily, mailed letters, visited each other every other weekend, trying to beat the odds of long distance relationships. I passed my LCSW social work exam and we finally could move and live together. We came to visit Asheville and immediately knew this was where we were meant to be. So Devon left the only place he’s ever called home and I left NYC again to live with the love of my life. And we haven’t looked back. We have been building a new life here together and continue to fall in love daily. Devon got on one knee the day before my birthday last year asking for me to be his wife and I haven’t been more sure of anything. So how did we meet? I guess the simple answer is we were neighbors and childhood friends who fell in love." - Gabby
