About the Studio

I’m Cami of Camilla Calnan Photography, a full-service photography studio based in Asheville, North Carolina. Weddings, portraits, commercial, product, and adventure/nature photos fill my days and edit queues in the studio. I create albums, wall art, and custom prints in-house through our professional printing partners. Capturing love is my mission. After all these years, the magic of photography never ceases to amaze me.

Photography has always inspired me, driving my need to document and capture the world around me. I want people to feel comfortable in front of the camera, making it a fun experience for everyone involved, so personalities show in the photos. My favorite thing is to capture chapters of a person or family’s story over the years. It is an honor to photograph people that have trusted me with their memories - from engagement to wedding, maternity to newborn and family portraits. I love being a photographer, documenting and preserving an archive of favorite moments to relive for generations ahead.

I have been taking photos for as long as I can remember and honestly cannot imagine doing anything else with my life. When I was 4, my dad let me take the camera, and I never gave it back. High school yearbook class introduced me to the darkroom and I found something I loved. I started working at the local paper as a photojournalist and continued to the University of Southern Mississippi to study art photography, photojournalism, and literature. By spending so much time in the darkrooms of two different departments while working as the campus PR photographer for several semesters, I discovered what I loved to shoot, realizing that journalism was not what I wanted for my life. I knew I wanted to photograph the good things - the love, the joy, and the beauty in the real moments. I transferred to the University of North Carolina at Asheville in 2000, and once I moved to these gorgeous mountains, I could not imagine living anywhere else. I love exploring, adventuring, and capturing the beauty that surrounds me. My photography work is primarily nature and landscape, with adventures often taken with the mission of sharing the sights we have seen to help inspire others to love nature and support conservation efforts. As a way to give back, our studio is a sponsor (Community Leader Level!) of the NC Arboretum. I adore capturing for local non-profits and businesses to help create images that help them promote their work.
